Statewide MLK Oratorical Contest set for April 17

COLUMBUS – Twenty-six Ohio students will compete in the Statewide MLK Oratorical Contest being held April 17 at the King Arts Complex, 867 Mount Vernon Ave., Columbus. 

These participants, in grades kindergarten through 12, advanced from regional contests and will give original speeches inspired by the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The 2015 theme is “Give Us the Ballot: A Hope for Change.”  

The students will be judged on their performance, originality and composition. The winners in each of the four grade-based categories will be invited to speak at the 2016 Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration on Jan. 14 in downtown Columbus. 

The contest is open to the public and will be held from 10 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. with a lunch break from approximately11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

The contest and celebration are sponsored by the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission, which is housed in the Equal Opportunity Division of the Ohio Department of Administrative Services.
