Columbus City Council selects Shayla Favor to fulfill vacated term

[COLUMBUS-OH] City Council selects Shayla Favor to fulfill the remainder of the Council term vacated by former member Jaiza Page.

“We are very pleased to have Favor join our team and look forward to the unique perspective she has to offer,” said Council President Shannon Hardin. “Favor has been a transformative figure in the realm of housing and neighborhood blight in Columbus. She is a civic leader with a deep understanding of what the community needs.”

Favor is an Assistant Attorney for the City of Columbus specializing in zoning. Her body of work includes addressing nuisance properties in the City. “Eliminating blight gets to the heart of protecting our public safety and improving the quality of life of our residents,” said Favor in her appointment application.

She holds a Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and African American Studies from The Ohio State University.

“I am humbled and excited to continue my service to the community,” said Favor. “I am ready to get to work for the people of Columbus as your Councilmember.”

This is Council’s first appointment of 2019. Council is scheduled to fill the soon-to-be to vacated seat of President Pro Tem Michael Stinziano on Monday February 25, 2019. A public hearing on the finalists is tentatively scheduled for February 21.
