Publisher’s Notes: All Kids Matter

Publisher’s Notes:  All Kids Matter

The silence is deafening from Columbus’ Black elected  and community leadership on the violent environment that some of our kids live.   I continue to hear news reports where kids are shooting each other on a regular basis.  All kids matter.  The kids that don’t live in your neighborhood or hang in your social circles matter.  It matters that we provide all kids with a good education.  It matters that we provide them with  a sense of right and wrong.  It matters that we provide them with a sense of community.  It matters that we provide them with a sense of security.   It matters year around not just during an election campaign.

As business owners in the private sector, perhaps we should look to invest more in young people.  Consider offering internships, employment or apprenticeships so that young folks have an employable or entrepreneurial skill.  The untapped talent of the “forgotten” young people in our community could create additional sales and profits for your business.  It will make a difference in the life of a young person.

According to Asad Shabazz, founder of Young People in Action, “Our young people need the commitment of us to help them to develop the leader within. Until they have the proper love and direction given, we will continue to lay them to rest and lock them up. The leadership of our people should give of their lives to bring about these things.”

Young People in Action is committed to self improvement through the development of Spiritual, Social, Educational, Economical, and Political competencies.  You can find more on YPA at www.youngpeopleinaction.com

Consider being the person you needed when you were young.

Just my thoughts,
