Clarence Mingo to be keynote speaker at the 2017 OhioMBE Awards
OhioMBE Publisher Ronda Watson Barber is pleased to announce that Franklin County Auditor and candidate for State Treasurer Clarence Mingo will be the keynote speaker at the 2017 OhioMBE Awards. The OhioMBE Awards recognizes minority/female businesses and their advocates. The award luncheon also presents the Frank W. Watson Scholarships to area youth seeking post-secondary educational opportunities. One scholarship is earmarked for a Columbus East High School student.
Franklin County Auditor Clarence Mingo brings nearly three decades of public service as he campaigns for State Treasurer. Combining his military service with his commitment as county auditor, Clarence has gained the experience needed to become Ohio’s next State Treasurer. A veteran, Clarence answered the call of duty following graduation from high school and served honorably with the coalition forces that liberated Kuwait during the 1991 Persian Gulf War.
Upon his return, Clarence attended The Ohio State University where he earned his undergraduate and law degree. Clarence then re-focused his commitment to service to his community as an attorney in private practice. County courts frequently appointed Clarence to represent the interests of children in abuse, neglect and divorce cases.
In 2007, the late Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, Thomas J. Moyer, appointed Clarence as a commissioner in the Ohio Court of Claims. Clarence served as one of seven commissioners with statewide appellate jurisdiction in victims of crime cases. In 2009, Clarence was appointed Franklin County Auditor by the Franklin County Republican Party. He was subsequently re-elected in 2010 and 2014.
As Franklin County Auditor, Clarence makes sure that all taxes are measured fairly and accurately, and responds to citizens’ requests for more information and transparency about how their tax dollars are spent.
As a conservative steward of the taxpayers’ money, Clarence has worked hard to create an efficient and transparent auditor’s office. Since taking office in 2009, Clarence has returned nearly $18 million to local governments and schools. In 2010, he saved county taxpayers $1.5 million through technological advancements.
Clarence draws on his life experience to help him handle the duties of the Franklin County Auditor’s Office and protects taxpayers throughout his community. A strong fiscal conservative, Clarence will look for ways to streamline state government and always put the interests of taxpayers first. Clarence intends to bring those same principals to the State Treasurer’s office. Clarence and his wife Angela married in 1992. They are the proud parents of Annalise and Ava Mingo. The family resides in New Albany, Ohio.
