Linda Parks

Breast cancer awareness advocate Linda Parks will receive the 2019 OhioMBE Publisher’s Award at the OhioMBE Awards on Oct. 24 at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium. The OhioMBE Awards recognizes Ohio’s small businesses and their advocates.

Linda is a Komen for the Cure Ambassador also an American Cancer Society Reach to Recovery volunteer. Her fight to help others is through her mission of awareness: Initiated the pink lights on the downtown Newark, Ohio courthouse and the water fountain. She also hosted several candlelight programs using poetry and song. Linda recently coordinated a “Know Your Girls” breast cancer luncheon/forum. The “Know Your Girls” initiative was created by the Ad Council and Komen to educate African American women about breast cancer.

She believes that wearing something “pink” every day will hopefully spark a conversation, which she finds as a teaching moment. Since Linda
does not carry the gene for cancer, this makes her job more challenging to get people on board to take charge of their health.

She encourages women and men to become proactive in a healthy lifestyle. Remember your body is the temple of God. If you believe your body gives you warning signs, listen and act.
