Registration is open for the Fall 2022 OBDC Construction Academy

Registration is open for the Fall 2022 OBDC Construction Academy. The Fall 2022 session will help to enhance the skills of area contractors.  The free classes will be in a hybrid format. In-person sessions will be held at the City of Columbus Planroom, 1393 E. Broad St, Suite 104.

Business owners will get training in estimating, how to read the specification book, how to read blueprints, scheduling, accounting for contractors, insurance/bonding, and business certifications.  Attendees will also have access to the  2022 OhioMBE Awards on Oct. 27 and the OhioMBE Procurement/Financial Fair on Oct. 28.  Area small businesses and construction companies will provide the instruction.

“The OBDC Construction Academy will help fill a void for small contractors, particularly companies owned by minorities and women.  We aim to enhance the business skills of some very trade talented entrepreneurs,” said OBDC President/CEO Ronda Watson Barber.  “By partnering with Franklin County and local construction companies we will be able to introduce and re-enforce best practices to help grow area contractors and subcontractors.

Construction-related businesses may register online at OHBDC.org.  The first class Basic Estimating is scheduled for Sept. 29.  It will be facilitated by James A. Jones III, of Home Commerical Inspectors.

Funding for the OBDC Construction Academy is from the Franklin County Commissioners.
