Ohio’s leading environmental testing and property inspection firm—Home & Commercial Inspections LLC—will lend its skills to a nationwide healthy homes program set up by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
With years of reputable experience in identifying hazards in the home, Home & Commercial Inspections LLC was an obvious choice to join HUD’s Healthy Homes Initiative (HHI).
After attending several vendor fairs and networking events hosted by Ronda Barber, publisher of OhioMBE, Ohio’s largest Black-owned business newspaper and President/CEO of the Ohio Business Development Center, Home & Commercial Inspections LLC met with HUD’s Deputy Director Michelle Miller at the American Society of Home Inspectors annual conference, InspectionWorld 2023. The City of Columbus awarded the contract to the inspection firm this month.
Millions of children suffer from environmental dangers at home annually. In 1999, following a congressional directive and because of concerns about children’s health in relation to their environment, HUD created the HHI to safeguard families and their children from health and safety risks related to their housing.
The HHI aims to combat many childhood ailments and injuries within the home by coordinating efforts to tackle housing-related hazards rather than addressing one issue at a time. Building on HUD’s existing programs, the HHI tackles various environmental health and safety risks, such as mold, lead, allergens, asthma, carbon monoxide, home safety, pesticides, asbestos and radon.
