The City of Columbus is inviting residents, building owners, and community stakeholders to provide input on a proposed Building Performance Standard (BPS) policy designed to improve health and energy efficiency in large, existing buildings.
A BPS establishes energy or emissions targets that increase over time and provides technical and financial support to help building owners meet those goals. The proposed ordinance, expected in 2026, would support the City’s Climate Action Plan while enhancing quality of life and fostering local economic growth.
In late 2025, Sustainable Columbus convened a Healthy Buildings Advisory Group made up of diverse local stakeholders to help shape the policy. Now, the City is seeking broader public feedback on the proposed framework and the support systems needed for impacted groups.
Food, beverages, and free parking will be provided at all in-person events.
