Ohio State Representative and elected President of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Alicia Reece (D-Cincinnati) is honored to serve her third term as state representative in the 33rd Ohio House District.
A graduate of Withrow High School International Studies Academy, Rep. Reece earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Grambling State University in Louisiana where she studied Public Relations and minored in Spanish. While in college Rep. Reece was a strong advocate for civil rights and voting rights, leading a voter registration and mobilization campaign that activated thousands of college students.
Rep. Reece’s passion for a permanent solution to voter disenfranchisement, suppression, and intimidation has led her to recently call for a historic VOTER BILL of RIGHTS Constitutional Amendment in Ohio in 2014, and in other states across the country. She unveiled the plan at the 50th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s March on Washington on August 24th, where she served as one of the speakers.
Rep. Reece is a long-time public servant who has held many roles on behalf of the citizens of Ohio. Before serving in the Ohio House, she served as Vice Mayor of Cincinnati from 2002-2006 and was a City Councilwoman for the eight years prior. Rep Reece also served as the Assistant Director of Tourism in the Ohio Department of Development, where she helped oversee a $39 billion industry employing 400,000 Ohioans.
Rep. Reece is an active member of New Friendship Baptist Church. She is a current member of the Order of Eastern Stars, NAACP, and is a founding member of the National Urban League of Young Professionals. She is a national board member of Rev. Al. Sharpton’s National Action Network and a former board member of the Cincinnati United Way, Cincinnati Health Collaborative, Greater Cincinnati Health Foundation, National League of Cities, and Greater Cincinnati Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
Rep. Reece is also the proud aunt of six nieces and nephews.
