Ohio Legislative Black Caucus to discuss state of “Black Cincinnati” at town hall

Legislative Action Tour to visits Urban League to examine issues important to the African American community

CINCINNATI— In August, the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati released a report entitled The State of Black Cincinnati 2015, which painted a picture of stunning disparities in Greater Cincinnati from outcomes in the criminal justice system to child poverty and more. This Monday, State Rep. and OLBC Pres. Alicia Reece (D-Cincinnati), along with Sen. Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati), Rep. Christie Kuhns (D-Cincinnati), Rep. Kevin Boyce (D-Columbus), Hearcel Craig (D-Columbus), Emilia Sykes (D-Akron) and Rep. Stephanie Howse (D-Cleveland) will return to the Urban League’s headquarters to discuss ongoing challenges that face the African American community in Cincinnati and across Ohio.

“As the Urban League’s report shows, over the past 20 years disparities in poverty, education, and incarceration between African Americans and the rest of Ohio continue to persist, if not grow worse,” said Reece. “This statewide Legislative Action Tour is an opportunity for the community to come together to learn about the challenges we face and to hold a meaningful discussion about how we can demand change in the areas of justice reform and economic opportunity.”

The town hall is part of the OLBC’s statewide Legislative Action Tour, which is visiting cities across Ohio in an ongoing dialogue on issues important to the African American community, including generational poverty, justice reform, minority business opportunities, and more.
