COLUMBUS—State Rep. Brigid Kelly (D-Cincinnati) and her joint sponsor, Rep. Scott Lipps (R-Franklin), today applauded the passage of House Bill (HB) 105, known as “Erin’s Law,” out of the House Primary and Secondary Education Committee. This bill would require all public schools to implement age-appropriate sexual abuse prevention curriculum.
“Kids need to be equipped with the knowledge and tools to keep themselves safe, healthy and well,” said Rep. Kelly. “Erin’s Law is an integral part of setting this foundation.”
If enacted, Erin’s Law would require age-appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade, and age-appropriate instruction in sexual violence prevention education for seventh through 12th grade. It would also include training for recognizing the signs of childhood sexual abuse and provide help for teachers and other professionals working with kids.
HB 105 now awaits a vote on the House floor.
