Publisher’s Notes: Honor the Dream!
By Ronda Barber
I Have a Dream!
We celebrate and honor the 50th anniversary of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have A Dream” speech. What a dream! What courage! The Civil Rights community, Dr. King and March organizers of this momentous movement challenged America to live up to its creed and promise. We are all created equally in God’s eyes and African Americans were demanding their full citizenship rights.
Rev. King, A. Philip Randolph, John Lewis, Roy Wilkins and Whitney Young challenged America to be better. What are you doing to help fulfill the mission of The March? The social movement in 1963 was for the end of police brutality, better working wages and voting rights.
As citizens we all must play a role in perfecting this union and preserving our democracy. Do you vote? Are you an informed voter? Do you support Black-owed businesses? Our vote and dollar are powerful. We must use them wisely to empower our community.
As we celebrate the legacy of the March on Washington, let’s continue to make daily strides to fulfill The Dream!
