Gov. Kasich and Ohio MLK Commission encourage Ohioans to
commemorate 50th anniversary of ‘I Have a Dream’

Columbus — Governor John R. Kasich and the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission, together with The King Center in Atlanta and the 50th Anniversary Coalition, are calling on people and organizations throughout Ohio to pause to remember, reflect and act upon the dream that Dr. King shared with the world 50 years ago when the March on Washington culminated with Dr. King’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech on Aug. 28, 1963. Ohio events include the “Let Freedom Ring” Bell-Ringing Commemoration being held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 on the west plaza of the Ohio Statehouse. Speakers include the Rev. Joel L. King, Jr., a first cousin to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and David Jehnsen, a leader of a Chicago delegation that attended the 1963 march. Jehnsen, a Galena resident, and the Rev. King, a Gahanna resident, are members of the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission, the sponsor of the event.

The commission is housed in the Equal Opportunity Division of the Ohio Department of Administrative Services (DAS). For more information about the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission, visit
