Kevin Boyce wants to make Franklin County an innovative, welcoming and dynamic place to do business

My wife of nearly twenty years, Crystal, is a pretty amazing person.  Her dedication to our family humbles me every day.  Eleven years ago, Crystal showed me what dedication was when she opened up her own small business, Leap of Faith Dance Studio.  Today her business is thriving, but her experiences have opened my eyes to some of the very real challenges that small business owners face.

Training the workforce of tomorrow

We need to take a more strategic approach to workforce development.  I certainly believe that everyone who is interested in attending college should be able to do so in a cost effective way, but I think we often overlook preparing those who aren’t going to college to enter the workforce.  I hope to work with Commissioners Brown and O’Grady to change the way we train workers in Franklin County in partnership with small business leaders.  I would like to expand programs that train workers for specific workforce needs.  I also look forward to partnering with the City of Columbus so that together we can build an even stronger Franklin County.

Access to Capital

Starting a small business is not easy.  I believe that we can do better at developing partnerships that assist entrepreneurs in developing their business in the Central Ohio region.  That’s why, if elected Commissioner, I would bring together small business owners, representatives from incubators, and workforce development professionals to audit what we are currently doing and where we can do better.  My friend, former Mayor Michael Coleman, always says “If you aren’t moving forward, you are falling behind.”  We need to make sure that we are helping small business owners be successful.

I’ve been given lots of opportunities throughout my nearly twenty years of public service.  I am profoundly grateful for each and every one of those experiences.  I look forward to continuing to work with you and others throughout our community to make our County and our State an innovative, welcoming and dynamic place to do business.
