Ohio State Rep. Alicia Reece to Speak at National Action Network Convention

Rev. Al Sharpton asks Cincinnati lawmaker to sit on voter protection panel

COLUMBUS—State Representative Alicia Reece (D- Cincinnati), President of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, has been invited to speak at the National Action Network’s National Convention this week by Rev. Al Sharpton. Rep. Reece will be a panelist for the Protecting Our Vote During Midterm Elections segment.

“I am honored to join this national panel to talk about solutions to combat voter intimidation and voter suppression not only in Ohio but nationwide”, says Rep. Reece.

The convention will take place at the Sheraton New York Towers in New York City from April 3^rd through April 6^th. The event combines prominent leaders in civil rights, government, labor, business and press to discuss topical civil rights issues and methods to work toward fulfillment of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision.

The annual convocation will commemorate the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination and honor his work on civil and human right’s issues. Issues such as employment, voting rights, education, healthcare, gun violence and social justice will be addressed throughout the four-day agenda.

Rep. Reece has gained national attention for her criticism of voter suppression tactics in Ohio and her “Count the Votes” House Bill. She has been a leading advocate on issues relating to Minority Business Enterprises (MBE) throughout the state, and she has devoted much time to local issues of racial profiling, housing, women’s health and urban development.
