Increase CDC to provide business training for restored citizens and inmates

In January 2017, Increase Community Development Corporation (Increase CDC) joined a collaboration with CleanTurn Enterprises in conjunction with the Finance Fund and Coffee Crafters Academy to provide entrepreneurial training to Ohio inmates and restored citizens.

The collaboration is a result of the SBA Prime grant received by the Finance Fund to provide training and technical assistance to incarcerated individuals and those recently released in Columbus with an emphasis on restored citizens in the Franklinton area.

The year long project will be delivered in phases leading up to financing opportunities up to $75,000 exclusively for individuals with a criminal record.

The first phase of the project will focus on Entrepreneurship 101 training sessions offered at the Lincoln Correctional Facility, Ohio Reformatory for Women, Marion Correctional Institute, Franklin Medical Center, Franklin County Jail and CleanTurn Enterprises.

The second phase consists of the Restoration Initiative Through Entrepreneurship (RITE) seminar. This two-day training presented by Increase CDC offers restored citizens the opportunity to assess themselves as potential and emerging entrepreneurs while learning the essentials of business planning, personal finance and credit management.

Additional phases will follow the RITE seminars and will be discussed further at the “Elevating Restored Citizens Through Entrepreneurship Community Forum” on April 5, 2017 from 9am to 12pm at the Cardinal Health Ballroom at the Lincoln Theater located at 769 E. Long Street. This community forum is designed to promote entrepreneurship as a means for change and growth for citizens returning to our community after incarceration. This event is free and open to the public.
