City of Columbus survey on summer youth employment

The City of Columbus is excited to add a diversity focus to this year’s summer youth employment program,” in which, The Office of Diversity and Inclusion would like to share our support. “Research has shown that the benefits of summer youth employment goes far beyond simply making money,” it provides a learning experience and a sense of pride and confidence that helps to shape the student’s career outlook in the years ahead.

This year’s summer hiring program will help participating youth ages 16-22 gain soft skills and encourage community involvement, both of which will provide lifelong learning and earning advantages for these youth.

With that, there may be an opportunity to leverage American Recovery Act dollars to support the summer youth employment with our local small business community.  The value add for our certified companies is to continue to support them as they weather the impacts of COVID on their business operations. Although nothing is definite right now, our office will confirm availability of funds and when the funds will be released in weeks to come.

In the meantime, we would like to take an opportunity to gather your interest around having a youth summer hire to work within your organization.  Please fill out this brief survey by clicking on the link below, to let us know your interest. Should you have further questions, please email Mike Pettiford at: mepettiford@columbus.gov.

Please respond by EOD Friday, April 16, 2021.
