Reps. West, Kelly applaud the House passage of legislation to cut red tape for plumbing inspectors

State Rep. Thomas West (D-Canton)

COLUMBUS – State Reps. Thomas West (D-Canton) and Brigid Kelly (D-Cincinnati) recently announced that House Bill (HB) 247, their bill to consolidate two state certification processes for plumbing inspectors, passed the Ohio House.

“Simply put, HB 247 cuts red tape for plumbing inspectors by combining two existing state certifications into one,” said Rep. West. “This is a commonsense bill that makes our state government more efficient and simplifies enforcement of plumbing rules for municipalities, local health departments and counties.”

“HB 247 is a commonsense bill that will improve efficiencies while still ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our communities,” said Rep. Kelly.

Currently, plumbing inspectors are dually certified by the Division of Industrial Compliance and the Board of Building Standards. HB 247 would create a single, consolidated certification process housed solely under the Board of Building Standards, which already enforces plumbing certification rules.

Following House passage, HB 247 awaits referral to a committee in the Ohio Senate.
