Columbus Zoo issues bid notice for existing Bonobo (great ape) Building Remodel and Expansion

ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDDERS  

Request for Proposal, Construction Manager at Risk will be received by the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Via E-Mail, until Friday, July 15, 2022 at 5:00 P.M., Eastern Standard Time for the following project: 

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Existing Bonobo (great ape) Building Remodel and Expansion

The Request for Proposal documents may be reviewed without charge by emailing Karen.schenk@columbuszoo.org.  All requests must be followed up with a phone call to confirm email has been received, call (614) 724-3593.  All requestors will be required to complete a nondisclosure agreement prior to receiving the request for proposal. 

The Bonobo Building Remodel and Expansion will consist of approximately $2.415 million dollars in estimated construction in renovations to the existing Bonobo building at the Zoo. 

The existing building renovation and expansion provides a new space so the bonobo have free choice movement between their bedrooms, dayrooms and flex space. Updates will dramatically improve existing back of house holding and staff support areas of the building that are to remain. Improvements will also extend the life of the building.  Included will be improvements to Animal Care Staff facilities including a prep kitchen, office, universal restroom, and storage with a successful chute and animal door system for bonobos to transfer from one space to the next and to the outdoor habitat.  Design for better function of utilities within the building, such as water, sanitary and HAVC systems will also be included.

The Construction Manager at Risk will be part of the overall Design Team consisting of the Owner, WDM Architects (Zoological Designer), and a team of local MEP, Civil and Structural engineer sub-consultants. Construction is scheduled to start March 2023 with a completion date December 2023. The construction management software, Procore, will be utilized for this project.

Proposals will be reviewed within 10 business days.  Further instructions for submitting a formal response to the subsequent RFP for the project will also be sent at that time.

The project is Prevailing Wage with rates published by the Department of Labor. All documentation is to be compiled and submitted throughout the project.
