August is Hot: Who’s Ice is Colder?

By Ambrose Moses, III

August is National Black Business Month.  It is the year 2013 and the President of the United States is Black.  Do we still need a month dedicated to supporting Black-owned businesses?  Yes, we do.

We need Black Business Month because some people still think “The Man’s ice is colder”.  They give all of these excuses for not supporting or patronizing Black-owned businesses.  They talk about customer service, price, timeliness, and quality of the product or service.  But tell me this, “How cold is The Man’s ice?”

How many times have you felt ripped off by your cell phone company?  How much money have you spent with your cell phone company during the last two years?  How cold is their ice?

How many times have you been profiled by a store clerk at the mall and followed up and down the aisles?  How many times has the store not had what you want or need?  How cold is their ice?

How many times has your bank charged you an outrageous overdraft fee?  How many times has your credit card company charged you an outrageous late fee?  How cold is their ice?

How many times has your insurance agent, attorney, or accountant called or saw you out and asked “How are you doing?”  How many times have you had lunch or a drink with your insurance agent, attorney, or accountant?  How cold is their ice?

How many times have you waited too long to be served at the restaurant advertised in all of those television commercials?  How many times has the food and service been horrible?  How cold is their ice?

This month, do something different.  Get yourself some Black Ice.  You know what they say, “Once you go Black . . .”
