 Energy Manager 

The City of Columbus Department of Public Utilities is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Energy Manager in the Division of Power. This position is responsible overseeing power purchase agreements, assisting with developing utility-scale renewable energy projects, and managing customer renewable energy and storage interconnections. Other duties include: serving as the division’s liaison to the Demand Response curtailment service provider, participating on Sustainable Columbus working groups, monitoring wholesale energy markets including PJM market settlements, researching and making recommendations on energy programs and other advanced technology implementations, supporting regulatory compliance matters, assisting with rate design and other strategic planning, and preparing regular reports. Applicants for this role should be highly-motivated, self-starters who have electric utility experience or who are looking to quickly learn all aspects of the electric utility system. The Division of Power has 110 full time employees, services nearly 17,000 residential and commercial customers and operates nearly 55,000 street lights as well as maintains Ohio Department of Transportation freeway lighting within City limits.

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of professional experience in environmental sciences, environmental sustainability, energy planning, electrical utility, electricity markets, renewable energy or a closely related field. Substitution(s): Possession of a valid certificate as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) may be substituted for the required education and experience. Possession of certification as a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) may substitute for one (1) year of the experience. Possession of a Master’s degree may substitute for one (1) year of the experience. A valid driver’s license is also required. The salary range is: $71,885 – $107,806 annually.
