She later earned her master’s degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Rita has been a serial entrepreneur, starting her first business in 2000 and launching her second venture in 2014.

She educates corporations on the value of local Black history and started city bus tours in June 2022, featuring Columbus’ historic African American communities. Rita sits on the trustees board of the Columbus Landmarks Foundation and the Columbus Historical Society.
