Columbus City Council Announces Public Safety Week 2024

A Week of Events Aimed at Enhancing Community Safety and Engagement

Columbus, OH – Columbus City Council is excited to announce Public Safety Week 2024, a series of community-centered events from Tuesday, September 10 through Saturday, September 14, 2024. Public Safety Week will offer a variety of educational, interactive, and community-building activities, all focused on improving public safety and fostering stronger connections between Columbus residents and law enforcement.

Public Safety Week 2024 Schedule of Events:

Tuesday, September 10
Event: Community Connect: Virtual Training Sessions
Time: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Details: Virtual sessions on Webex covering topics like Vision Zero Columbus, filing police reports, Council grant applications, and C.R.A.S.E. (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events).

Wednesday, September 11
Event: Community Dinner & Discussion with Law Enforcement Action Partnership (LEAP) and the Office of Violence Prevention
Time: 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Location: New Salem Baptist Church, 2956 Cleveland Ave
Details: A free dinner provided by Modern Southern Table, followed by an open discussion on community safety with key stakeholders.

Thursday, September 12
Event: Safety Fun Fest
Time: 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Location: Linden Community Center, 1350 Briarwood Ave
Details: A family-friendly evening featuring a youth showcase, police vs. fire basketball game, and the Unsung Hero Award presentation.

Friday, September 13
Event: Linden Litter Sweep
Time: 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Details: A community clean-up competition encouraging local churches, schools, non-profits, and youth groups to come together and revitalize the neighborhood. The winning team will receive a prize!

Saturday, September 14
Event 1: Pelotonia Kids Bike Ride & Resource Fair
Time: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Location: St. Stephen’s Community House
Event 2: Office of Violence Prevention Community Gun Buyback
Time: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Details: Residents can safely turn in firearms as part of the community gun buyback initiative, with free gun locks provided by Columbus City Council.
