The Ohio Business Development Center (OBDC) is proud to announce a major shift in its service model, transitioning to a yearly membership format starting January 1, 2025. This change aims to sustain the essential services and resources OBDC provides to Black-owned businesses, while maintaining its independence from restrictive government grants.
Since its founding, OBDC has been a vital advocate for Black-owned businesses, offering free and low-cost training, networking opportunities, certification assistance, and access to an extensive resource network. However, the lack of financial support during the 2024 giving campaigns has made the current model unsustainable.
Introducing the OBDC Membership
Beginning in 2025, OBDC will implement a $25 yearly membership fee, which includes:
- Free Access to Training Classes: Gain valuable skills to grow your business.
- Free Networking Sessions: Connect with entrepreneurs and professionals.
- Free Business Listing in the OBDC Planroom Directory: Increase visibility and attract opportunities.
- Access to Printers and Computers: Utilize our office resources for business operations.
“Advocating for Black-owned businesses is at the heart of what we do, and this change allows us to continue that mission without being stifled by the limitations of government grants,” said Ronda Watson Barber, OBDC founder and CEO.
Special Offer for 2024 Donors
OBDC is offering a complimentary 2025 membership to anyone who contributed to its 2024 giving campaign. Donations can still be made at givebutter.com/OBDC before the end of the year to qualify for this offer.
Why the Change?
For years, OBDC has provided accessible services, funded by grants, sponsorships, and donations. However, the lack of consistent community support has made it necessary to adopt a membership model to sustain operations and ensure the continuation of programs that are critical to Black business success.
“While this transition marks a significant change, it is also an opportunity to strengthen our community’s commitment to advocacy and equity in business,” said Barber.
