Ohio transportation budget shows a lack of serious commitment to minority owned businesses.

State Representative Reece Fought to Keep Amendment that Affected Minority Businesses during Transportation Budget

House legislative bodies express disappointment at misguided policy exclusion

COLUMBUS – The members of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus were infuriated with the exclusion of an amendment that was presented on the House floor to ensure Minority owned businesses were included in the Transportation Budget.  This amendment would have provided opportunities for Minority owned businesses and would have strengthened there presence in the workforce by allowing continued work and creating more jobs.

State Representative Alicia Reece, President of the Ohio Black Legislative Caucus introduced this amendment last week during the House Floor Session. “First the administration eliminates the Minority Business Enterprise Office and now an amendment to make sure Minority owned businesses were included in infrastructure grants were effectively blocked from a vote. This shows a lack of serious commitment to Minority owned businesses. The Ohio Black Legislative Caucus will continue to fight for these measures in the upcoming budget bill,” says Representative Reece.

Republicans moved to table the amendment on the House floor, effectively keeping Minority Business Enterprise provisions out of the state’s transportation budget.
