COMBA client’s rally to save planroom

The Central Ohio Minority Business Association provides free business resources to area minority, women and disadvantaged owned businesses in greater Columbus. In an effort to enhance and increase the service offerings of the state’s oldest minority business economic development agency, COMBA was in discussions with City Council to utilize office space that has been vacant for the past 6 years. Based on those discussions the agency was under the impression they could utilize the vacant space effective January 2013. Due to the lack of movement by City Council and the failure to communicate with the real estate division, the space will now be occupied by a city department.

As a result, COMBA is forced to shut down the only FREE construction plan room in the town and the newly created minority business computer lab. The loss of the construction plan room will have direct impact on minority construction companies. Additionally, the closure of the computer lab is another reduction in assets for job creators and tax payers.

Encourage Mayor Coleman to show his support for minority owned businesses and find the resources to keep the minority plan room open. The continued growth and development of minority businesses is dependent on it.
