Get Politically Active

Maybe there is something in the Columbus water. The current political landscape offers an interesting story daily. There have been name calling, unexpected and unnecessary endorsements and false accusations. As we draw nearer to the November elections, politicians and their representatives are out canvassing for your vote. As business owners, what’s important to you? Will you vote? What qualities must a candidate have to get your vote? How will you hold them accountable to their election promises?
For me, actions speak louder than words. A candidate’s track record and attention to issues matter. Remember, they are in charge with your tax dollars. Will they make certain that resources are allocated fairly? How will they support economic development in communities of color?
Below are a few questions to ask those seeking your vote.
- What have you done for minority businesses during your career?
- What do you promise to do for minority businesses if elected?
- What minority business do you regularly purchase products or services from?
- Why should minority business owners vote for you?
- How important is minority business development to the overall Ohio economy?
- Are minority business set-asides and goals in city/county/state government still important and why?
- What can the city/county/state do to improve its purchasing with minority businesses?
- What should minority owned businesses do to get city/county/state contracts?
- Is there anything else, aside from contracting that the city/county/state can do to assist MBE’s?
- Who are the major contributors to your campaign?
