Kevin Boyce hopes to become Franklin County’s First Black Commissioner

Kevin Boyce has been a committed public servant in Ohio for nearly two decades.  Currently serving as a State Representative for the 25th House District, Boyce’s service includes Columbus City Council and Treasurer of the State of Ohio.  Boyce has set his sights on a new office, one that enables him to incorporate the invaluable experience he has garnered as a small business owner with that as a civic leader.  He is the endorsed democratic candidate for Franklin County Commissioner.

Boyce has already defied the odds by gaining significant endorsements over his opponent, incumbent Paula Brooks.  Defying the odds is nothing new for Boyce.  Raised on the East side of Columbus, Boyce’s family moved often.  He attended ten different schools before graduating from East High School.   His athletic ability led him to The University of Toledo where he majored in political science.

Family and service have always been priorities for Boyce.  He met his wife Crystal through in public service and they married two years later.  A small business owner in her own right, Crystal owns and operates Leap of Faith Dance Studio which was selected to receive the Top FBE award from OhioMBE.  Crystal and the couple’s two sons, Kristopher and KJ, stood next to their father as he announced his candidacy for County Commissioner surrounded by more than forty elected officials including both Commissioners, Marilyn Brown and John O’Grady, as well as Former Mayor Michael Coleman and current Mayor Andrew Ginther.

“His vast experience in public service — in addition to his work with the non-profit organization KnowledgeWorks Ohio — will provide insight and perspective to the Board of Commissioners that will be of tremendous benefit. When Kevin Boyce wins this election, the people of Franklin County will win.” said Commissioner Brown.

The next chapter for Kevin Boyce will be decided in the March 15th Democratic primary followed by a November general election.  If successful, Boyce will be positioned for another odds defying moment, when he is sworn in as the first African American Commissioner in our county’s history.
