Publisher’s Note: Resist!

Resist!

By Ronda Watson Barber – OhioMBE Publisher

Are you resisting?  In the last issue of OhioMBE, I encouraged you to play a role in making our democracy and union more perfect.  Being an informed voter is important.  As the voting primary season is quickly approaching, many candidates seeking elected office will be asking for your vote and support.  Don’t give away the precious power to represent you and our community if they truly don’t have your best interest at heart.

Here are a few questions to ask those seeking elected office:

  1. What have you done for minority businesses during your career?
  2. What do you promise to do for minority businesses if elected?
  3. What minority business do you regularly purchase products or services from?
  4. Why should minority business owners vote for you?
  5. How important is minority business development to the overall Ohio economy?
  6. Are minority business set-asides and goals in school districts/city/county/state government still important and why?
  7. What can the school districts/city/county/state do to improve its purchasing with minority businesses?
  8. What measures should be taken to insure that procurement goals are met?
  9. What should minority owned businesses do to get school district/city/county/state contracts?
  10. Is there anything else, aside from contracting that the school district/city/county/state can do to assist MBE’s?
  11. Who are the major contributors to your campaign?
