Senator Portman should vote to confirm Judge Brown Jackson

Greetings Senator. I am writing to voice my opinion on your decision not to vote for Judge Brown Jackson for the US Supreme Court. As a Black professional woman, I am used to micro-aggressions and white men challenging my authority and expertise. What I witnessed during the Judiciary Committee Hearings was horrible and offensive. I viewed it as racist and misogynist. At some point, votes must be about the country and not a party. To continue, to rehash how another candidate was treated and take it out on another candidate is childish and doesn’t bring our country closer. When will you guys get over it? They yelled at her. They repeatedly interrupted her. There was no respect for a qualified jurist.

Judge Brown Jackson is qualified to sit on the Supreme Court. I find it ironic, that you supported candidates, without reservation, for lifetime federal judgeships nominated by Donald Trump. Many of those candidates were inexperienced and not recommended. The candidates weren’t diverse and in most cases young white men. Why didn’t you object to Donald Trump’s nominees and say the candidates should reflect the rich diversity of our country? How do you justify voting to pack the courts with unqualified white men but find an issue with Judge Brown Jackson? Your objection is her sentencing record. It is consistent with other federal judges. This doesn’t pass the smell test, Senator.

Just my thoughts…rwb
